Bipolar disorder

Brain electricity is a very influential thing in our lives.

If there is a disturbance in the electricity of the cerebral cortex, seizures may occur, which may be accompanied by loss of consciousness, urination, and cessation of breathing.

Also, if there is an electrical disturbance in the area around the emotional system in the brain, called the Paralimbic area

The person suffers from a mood disorder, which is called bipolar affective disorder.

There are three states in bipolar affective disorder that the patient goes through:

The first state: the stage of depression.

The second state: the stage of euphoria or mania.

The third state: the stage of normal mood.

In the depression stage in a patient with bipolar affective disorder, the patient experiences, for a period of consecutive days, a lack of concentration, changes in sleep, a lack of appetite, energy, and sex, and of course a state of sadness and an inability to enjoy the taste of life, which may be accompanied by delusions of weakness and guilt, and death wishes.

In the stage of vanity, the opposite happens, the patient feels that he is in a state of high mood, and feels that for several days he does not need to sleep and for several days he seems to have great energy, and for several days he talks a lot and talks about many ambitions, his sexual desire increases, his impulsiveness increases, his self-confidence increases, this may be accompanied by delusions of grandeur, that he is a prince or a king or the like.

In the stage of normal mood, the mood is normal, but, without therapeutic and educational sessions for the patient and his family about his condition, the patient remains in constant difficulties, as he wants to understand the reason for his problem and his setbacks, and wants to understand himself, his feelings and thoughts, and sometimes he feels angry with his family why they do not understand him, and perhaps he feels angry with the divine self for a period and blames it as the reason for what is happening, and sometimes he tells himself that he has to control himself, without medication and without sessions, and sometimes he says I have to adhere to what the doctor says… and so on.

The percentage of suicides among those suffering from bipolar disorder is 13 percent, which is the highest percentage among all mental illnesses in terms of the possibility of suicide.

Why do many doctors fail to deal with bipolar disorder?

Because there are three challenges:

The first challenge: Diagnosis of the disease, it is not easy to differentiate between a patient with bipolar disorder and a patient with depression.

The second challenge: Treatment of bipolar disorder, many doctors focus on treating the phase of euphoria and do not succeed in treating the patient in the phase of depression.

The third challenge: Therapeutic sessions that are useful for patients with bipolar disorder and their families… as many educational matters about the disease and what is related to the patient’s suffering are very important to be discussed with patients.

Important information about bipolar disorder:

Most periods of relapse in a patient with bipolar disorder are periods of depression, and this is the biggest trap that can be fallen into by those who treat and diagnose bipolar disorder, as the doctor is inexperienced, he may think the case is a case of depression, or if he makes the correct diagnosis, he throws all the weight of the treatment plan to deal with the state of mania, without paying attention to the extent of severe suffering in the phase of depression.

About 2% of people suffer from bipolar disorder.

The genetic factor in bipolar disorder is a huge factor, and bipolar disorder is also related to the weakness of thyroid hormone secretion. Bipolar disorder is closely related to sleep disorders and appetite disorders.
